Jen Evenhus is a nationally recognized,  award winning artist. Jennifer's bold use of color is what first attracts the eye. Her subject is often paint itself, fascinated with the painterly effects one can achieve with pastels, or the wonderful transparency of oils.

Whether with oils or pastels, Jennifer enjoys the process of painting as much as completing the work. Always sorry to see the journey end, Jen describes the process as a journey through unknown territory.

Even though she has a good idea of the outcome she wants, she is careful not to become locked into an idea, staying open to all those little accidents that happen along the way, careful not to cover them up.

These accidents she describes as unforeseen treasures that give a painting character, depth, and movement.

Jennifer's work is often very abstract, using earthscapes as a starting point, she paints out most of the detail, leaving just enough for the viewer to become lost in a new world. She alludes her abstract work to the Japanese 'Haiku,' a short poem of 17 syllables, an art form her grandmother, Charlotte Pilgrim, taught her.

Jennifer was the editor of the Northwest Pastel Society Newsletter for 4 years, finally giving up the reins to spend more time in the studio.

Giving workshops and demos are an important aspect of Jennifer's art life. She says "It’s imperative to share, so your passion will live on in the hearts and minds of a new generation."
Jennifer gave a workshop at the Coupeville Arts Center on beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington in March 2001. With 16 students, the class was an overwhelming success with many wonderful pieces created.

One of the highlights of her career was when Jennifer had the opportunity to do two pastel demos in August 1999 at the Seattle Art Museum in conjunction with their well received exhibit “Impressionism.” The long lines of visitors each day proved to her that art is alive and well!
